Sources claim lack of infrastructure reason for the denial

The Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) has denied permission to 27 AYUSH colleges in the state. Sources from the department say that over 27 colleges this year have been denied permission for certain undergraduate and postgraduate courses because of poor infrastructure.

The affiliating university for these colleges, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), too has issued a circular to all these 27 colleges in the State, including three institutes from Bengaluru. We hope these colleges abide by the notification, as the it is an directive of the Government of India’s denial of permission for UG and PG AYUSH courses to these colleges.

Students from courses like BAMS, MD/MS Ayurveda and BUMS have been asked not to enroll for the Ayush course. In Bengaluru, Ramakrishna Ayurvedic Medical College Hospital and Research Center has been denied to accept admissions for BAMS and MD/MS Ayurveda, Hillside Ayurveda Medical College has been denied for BAMS and Indian Institute of Ayurvedic Medicine too has been denied for running BAMS this year.

Other colleges are in districts like Chitradurga, Hubli, Shivamogga, Sulia, Haveri, Badami, Tumkur, Dharwad, Bijapur, Belgaum, Bagalkot, Nipani and Gulbarga.

A circular from RGUHS said, “The colleges have to strictly follow the instructions by Government of India with respect to not making any admissions for the said courses for the year 2019-20. If any admissions are found to be made, strict action will be taken against such institutions as per rules.”

However, speaking to Bangalore Mirror, Dr S Sachidanand, Vice-Chancellor of RGUHS said, “Over 27 AYUSH colleges are denied permission this year due to several parameters primarily because of poor infrastructure and faculty availability in the college. The AYUHS themselves have done a check and based on their criteria these colleges are denied permission.”
