RIPLEY — Shoppers in the Ripley area will now have access to fresh produce, natural health products and fresh coffee.
Farmhouse Naturals at 1031 Ripley Road in Ripley stemmed from the Nelson Family farm which originated in 2017. Josh Nelson, owner of Farmhouse Naturals, said their style of farming is different than the traditional style.
“We’re a regenerative farm. The cow and sheep are raised on grass, the chickens are raised on pasture, all our feeds are non-GMO, we don’t medicate with chemicals,” Nelson said. “We use natural things.”
When someone cracks an egg from their farm, Nelson said it’s a noticeable difference than what is purchased at the grocery store.
“The taste, the quality of the food is not even comparable,” he said.

The idea for the business stemmed from Nelson Family Farm and another local farmer with similar practices not being able to meet the demands with their product. Along with that, Nelson thought about the spectrum of health and the importance of good quality food.
Many feel organic food or produce is out of reach since it can be more pricey. Nelson feels that buying better quality food could make someone healthier and prevent them spending as much money on doctors visits.
“The difference between buying the food is it’s valuable. It’s more nutrient dense, it’s better for you, you’re getting more for your money,” Nelson said.
Health became a focus of the business after his wife was told she needed to be put on medication that had many side effects. When the bill was passed to legalize CBD, Nelson suggested it for his wife as a medicine alternative.
“We started to realize that there’s a full circle out there amongst the food (and) making sure you (live) an active lifestyle,” Nelson said.

The store also offers various CBD products, natural homemade soaps and local honey.
Plans are in the works to renovate the adjacent room to provide a full service coffee shop and host events. Someone came out to teach basic survival skills as one of the events.
Once the coffee shop opens, they’re looking to host farm to table dinners.
“All these products (will be) brought directly in, you come in and enjoy a nice meal with your family and fellowship with people that care about the things you care about,” Nelson said.
Along with that, a few times a year Nelson will invite the customer base to tour the farm “to see how the animals are being raised so they could have that connection with the farmer. We think that’s important that people know who their farmer is,” he said.

Through the healthy products and high quality food, Nelson hopes that “people will start to realize the full circle of how things are supposed to be,” he said.
Patrons of the store will not just be helping themselves by buying healthier products.
“You’re helping out multiple local farmers that are trying to farm right, that are not pumping your food full of junk and bringing you a worthwhile product,” Nelson said.
