The Castaic Animal Care Center is looking to donate dog food to Santa Clarita residents impacted by COVID-19, officials said Friday.
After a “generous” donation from Natural Balance, the Castaic Animal Care Center is looking to give back to the community that has been affected by coronavirus.
“The shelter wants to help the public because we got such a huge donation,” said Terra Dispirito, social media manager for the shelter. “We want to help those who can’t afford to buy the dog food. I know people who have lost their jobs and we are trying to help keep their dogs at home instead of turning them into the shelter.”
The Castaic center has “at least” 100 24-pound bags of Natural Balance dog food they are looking to donate, according to Dispirito.
Currently, the Castaic Animal Care Center is closed to visitors, but those interested in pet adoption can still see what animals are being sheltered through their site and arrange an adoption over the phone.

The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) is currently waiving adoption fees at all seven animal care centers, including Castaic, in an effort to quickly place animals in homes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Well we are closed right now but we are taking in strays and everything is done by appointment,” Dispirito added. “Everyone is wearing masks and gloves. We are limiting one person to come in per hour. The bottom line is to get these bags of food to people in need. All they have to do is schedule a pickup time.”
