TIMES have changed since HealthGuard Wellness started 20 years ago, but its vision has remained the same.

Since its opening in 2000, it has helped provide natural, whole-body healthcare to close to 10,000 people.

After celebrating its 20th anniversary earlier this year, owner and chiropractor Dr Stephen Osborne has had the chance to reflect on the business’s beginnings and growth.

“My dad had a very severe injury when I was in my teens and chiropractic work, at that time, was the only thing that could give him relief,” Dr Osborne said.

“That’s where my interest in the profession began.

“Later I had a good friend of mine, who had done a lot of work with chiropractors, ask if I had considered it – I think that was the nudge that I needed to take the next step.”

Having studied and worked as a chiropractor, Dr Osborne sought to combine the health practice with others to create HealthGuard Wellness.

The business offers chiropractic care, naturopathy, massage therapy and services relating to neuro emotional technique.

“Here we have a very holistic approach to health, and we focus on three principle areas,” Dr Osborne said.

“One of the biggest areas of chiropractic work is it looks to deal with physical, chemical and emotional stress.”

As with most businesses, the coronavirus pandemic has bought changes.

“(The pandemic) is an opportunity for everyone to review what’s really important to them,” Dr Osborne said.

“The people we have been seeing in the last few weeks have an appreciation of just how important health and taking care of it is.

“I think the combination of services that we provide helps people to do that.”
