The regional office said the activity aimed at promoting rational and safe use of traditional medicine.
“This training will be the first step towards achieving our goal of integrating traditional and complementary health care into the primary health care delivery system at the same time upholding our country’s traditional medicine heritage,” said Regional Director Eduardo Janairo.
“We have seen the increase of traditional medicine in recent years and today people are going back to basics – using herbal supplements to stay fit and healthy. The demand continues to rise and it is important to be selective of what traditional method or approach to use – safety must be the primary consideration,” Janairo said.
Janairo said traditional and alternative healthcare have been gaining popularity for the treatment of various ailments.
“Although they are getting popular in the medical and wellness sector, we still have to make sure that these procedures are properly applied and practiced by health professionals with the utmost safety to avoid any incident,” he noted.
Janairo said that they are planning to introduce other types of alternative medicine system in the future.
“We will also introduce other complementary and alternative system of medicine such as the Ayurveda, Naturopathy and Homeopathy,” he said.
