Tucked into a little white building on Jefferson Street is a new boutique with a unique twist.

Topical Vibes is a holistic boutique, which focuses on selling natural products to help customers with ailments. The inside is colorful and full of the scents of various lotions and essential oils.

Gloria Baker, a licensed massage therapist and one of the owners, operates a wellness center out of an old house on Jefferson Street. She opened Topical Vibes with several others partially to provide natural products to her clientele.

Topical Vibes offers products made with CBD — a chemical extracted from hemp which has low levels of THC, the chemical in marijuana that causes the psychoactive response. Because it’s derived from hemp and not marijuana, CBD oils are legal and can be used topically or ingested.

The boutique currently offers two lines of professional-grade CBD products — BeLeaf and Blue Key, which are both based in Missouri. Products include lotions, tinctures and oils. Each line also offers a CBD oil for pets.

Baker opened her wellness center 12 years ago; and being able to offer safe, natural CBD products to her massage clients was one reason she wanted to open the store.

“That was sort of why we put this store together — so that people would have more of that boutique-style and be more comfortable,” Baker said.

Topical Vibes also offers customers the option of making their own custom lotions, creams or skin scrubs. Starting with a lotion or salt base, customers can then choose essential oils from a mixture of smells to add to their lotion or scrub. CBD oil can be added for an extra charge.

Prices for the custom lotions range from $8.50 for a 4-ounce bottle to $45 for a 32-ounce bottle.

Co-owner Teresa Johnson said the holistic boutique is about helping people be healthy.

“We’re about building each other up,” Johnson said. “We’re about making sure that people are healthy and become healthier in their life and educating them to get to a better place. We all want to be healthier. We all want to be the best we can be.”

The holistic approach looks at a person’s whole body to treat aliments, Baker said, unlike modern Western medicine that focuses more on individual symptoms. Products like CBD are meant to be a more natural approach to treating things like anxiety, stress, pain, sleep issues and even seizures.

Topical Vibes offers other products, including CBD-infused bath bombs, Himalayan salt lamps, crystals, tarot cards, jewelry and kinesio tape. Work by local artists is also displayed.

The business opened to the public July 16 but will hold its grand opening from 11 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Snacks and drinks will be offered, and at 11:30 a.m. a guest speaker from BeLeaf Life Oils will hold a CBD education Q&A. From 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and from 4-6 p.m., Baker and Amanda Ryan will offer free chair massages.

Topical Vibes is located at 1128 Jefferson St. and is open from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays.
