Herbal hair dye, millet laddus and herbal soaps are among the stalls attracting people on the second day of AYUSH expo organised by Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA) here.
A total of 48 stalls were set up in the sixth edition of the expo. The four-day expo, with the aim to promote traditional medicine, has stalls from all five elements of AYUSH- Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy.
“The main aim behind the exhibition is to create awareness among the public about the benefits of switching back to our ancient form of medicine,” says K. Raja Murugan, chairman of the expo.
There were more number of stalls which focussed on herbal cosmetic products like Bhringraj hair oil, aloevera soap, organic hair dye and herbal face masks. There were also stalls promoting lemon grass, black cumin powder and herbal green tea packs, as weight loss products.
The stall owners say that the exhibition acts as a platform to exhibit their products to the public. “Last year we realised sales of ₹1.8 lakh. This year, within the first two days, we have sold products upto around ₹40,000,” says M. Dhanasekaran of The Indian Medical Practitioners’ Co-operative Pharmacy.
There are also seminars on various topics, including one on how to deal with autistic children through traditional medicine, scheduled to happen during the expo.
