A West Hall piece of land that was once the subject of bitter rezoning battle could now be housing boats instead of marble.

J9 Holdings LLC is seeking rezoning approval on 11.6 acres off Browns Bridge Road west of Spainhill Road for a gated boat and RV storage center.

“The site plan shows 223 covered slips and 23 uncovered parking spaces for the facility,” a planning document states.

The property is across from the old Mincey Marble plant. Mincey won approval from the Hall County Board of Commissioners in October 2016 to build a 100,750-square-foot plant on the property, over the fierce objections of many area residents.

In January 2017, Mincey announced it wouldn’t build on the site, opting instead to move all its operations to property in Gainesville Business Park off Calvary Church Road.

Mincey was based in that area for 40 years before moving production last year to 1940 New Harvest Road. Corporate offices recently moved from the Browns Bridge Road plant to the new building.

Apotheca, which makes natural health care products, announced in July it has bought the former Mincey Marble plant at 4321 Browns Bridge Road in West Hall County.

Planning staff recommends approval J9 Holdings’ request with several conditions, including there will be no access to Spainhill Circle from the facility. Spainhill Circle juts off Spainhill Road.
