In an attempt to bring all universities under one roof, North East Educational Consultancy (NEEC) organized an ‘Education Fair 2019’ today at Hotel Acacia in Dimapur.
Phila Zimik of the NEEC said the fair is an open platform of information and knowledge and the interface between the educational institution and the student/parent community seeking to have all their doubts and queries met.
However, with a dismal turnout on the first day, Zimik regretted lack of awareness among the student community and the parents. “Instead of the students going out, we are coming in,” said Zimik.
The one trend she witnessed happening in the state was, “I see students are rushing for admissions right after the results are out,” Zimik pointed out, urging the students to stay back and appear various exams, and in the meantime get all the information from the education fair with the universities at their town.
Speaking of Manipur where 80% are science colleges, students and parents walk in to various consultancies and compare and contrast institutes and fees; she remarked in Dimapur, students come in alone, which she viewed as another factor creating a gap from making right and informed choices.
“Instead of the students going out, seeking admissions and buying brochures, then talking on the phone with parents,” Zimik said having a discussion together with the parents and the universities together makes a huge difference.
While the fair witnessed a low turnout today, Kuldeep Singh Mann, Admission Manager of Swami Vivekanand Group of Institutes said the handful or in some instances, a lone student who comes in, comes with a conviction to join the institute which was not so in other states.
Dr SS Aravindar from Annai College of Naturopathy and Yoga Science, Tamil Nadu expressed the need to spread awareness to the young students on Naturopathy and Yoga which treat the person as a whole – body, mind and spirit. While NEET qualification was not required, Principal and Medical Superintendent, Dr Jyoti Nair said it offers comprehensive education in the latest field of medicine.
Nagaland Government is in partnership with Annai College, where students can avail scholarship accordingly.
It may be mentioned that NEEC is the North East leading independent educational fair organizer, where seminars and exhibitions are held over the last twelve years of its existence.
This education fair is an endeavor to help students in filling the potholes of uncertainty and lack of information on various aspects relating to one of the most vital decisions they will be taking.
Six universities across the country took part on the first day, which will culminate on May 10.
