Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Sunday asked the state government to respond on whether the homeopathic doctors are banned from treating coronavirus patients. The court also asked whether any official order regarding this have been issued.

The court sought the reply from the government while hearing a Public Interest Litigation seeking the court to issue an order against excluding homeopathic doctors from coronavirus treatment. Adv MS Vineeth moved the petition in the court.

The union health ministry recommended the inclusion of practitioners under Ayush department which includes Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy for COVID-19 treatment.The petitioner moved the PIL as government, till date did not issue any official orders in this regard.

P Narayanan, the government lawyer requested the court to give some time to collect details from the government to clarify whether homeopathic doctors are restricted from treating COVID-19 patients.

The court will hear the plea again on April 17.

Meanwhile, the court dismissed the petitioner’s plea seeking an interim order banning action against homeopathic doctors. The court observed that the government should report whether the homeopathy practitioners are restricted from COVID-19 treatment.

A division bench includes justice AK Jayasankaran Nambiar and Shaji P Chali considered the petition.
