JSL jumps into health and beauty segment with Ali
Ali brand draws on herbal resources
JSL Global Media Co, one of the country’s leading media content providers and event organisers, has teamed up with Pasutara herbal farm in Ratchaburi province to expand into the 300-billion-baht beauty business.
Ratiwan Thanadhamaroj, the company’s chief executive, said the company has joined with the herbal farm to develop Ali, a natural health and beauty brand that launched in the market yesterday.
The brand includes skincare, body care and haircare products, as well as mosquito spray and other offerings.
“JSL decided to diversify into health and beauty products to reduce business risk,” Ms Ratiwan said. “My mother [Jamnan Siritan, one of the three JSL founders] stayed at Pasutara farm and used the organic food here. We fell in love with Pasutara products and talked about a business venture with it for a couple of years.”
JSL set up a joint venture called Ali Natural Co in the middle of this year with registered capital of 5 million baht to handle the marketing of Ali products. JSL holds a 51% stake in the joint venture and Pasutara farm holds 49%.
Initially, Ali products are made available at The Mall Ngamwongwan branch and Mixt Chatuchak complex, via the online channel and through original equipment manufacturers.
Ali targets high-spending workers and health-conscious people. The product price range is 350-690 baht.
JSL Global Media was founded over four decades ago, comprising media business, content providing, TV production and event organising.
The company recorded a revenue high of 1.2 billion baht during the years before the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission granted 24 digital TV licences to 17 bidders in 2014, Ms Ratiwan said. Revenue dropped to 500 million baht last year as digital TV proliferated and the technology was disrupted.
Of the total revenue, roughly 60% came from TV business and the rest from other segments.
Ms Ratiwan expects Ali to achieve sales of 2-3 million baht this year, with sales jumping to 10 million baht next year.
Apart from the skincare and haircare lines, the company plans to launch more products under the Ali portfolio, including liquid detergent.
Darunee Watnakornbancha, the co-founder of Ali Natural Product Co, said all the raw materials for Ali products come from the company’s farmland on 43 rai in Suan Phung district of Ratchaburi province.
“Our business starts with our passion,” Ms Ratiwan said. “We hope Ali will become a business with sustainable growth. We’ve tested and used all products by ourselves.
“Despite being in the red ocean, we are confident in our product quality and think that Ali will become a major revenue contributor to JSL one day.”
