Local organic spot Dean’s Cafe in Metuchen closed Thursday, just nine months after opening earlier this year, the cafe announced on Facebook.

In its Facebook message, Dean’s Cafe said it closed “to make way for a new opportunity” but did not go into any further or specific details. The cafe opened Feb. 2 and was located at 31 New Street in Metuchen.

Dean’s Cafe sold fresh juices, smoothies, smoothie bowls and wellness shots made with 100% organic produce. Vegan food and pastries were also offered.

The cafe is part of the Dean’s Natural Food Market brand, which has supermarkets in Basking Ridge, Ocean Township, Chester and Shrewsbury. This was the first Dean’s Cafe.

Dean’s Natural Food Market was established in 1996.
