Plum Market’s swift expansion continues with the specialty grocer planning a new concept diner at the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation.
The new location will take up 4,000 square feet inside the museum, at 20900 Oakwood Boulevard in Dearborn, according to Rachel Cannon, marketing coordinator for the Farmington Hills-based grocer. It will function as a Plum Market Kitchen similar to the ones it operates at Detroit Metropolitan Airport, Oakland University and Northwestern University, north of Chicago.
It is expected to open in the winter. The company would not provide details on lease length, buildout investment or number of employees at the new location.
The museum restaurant will provide a quick-service, fast casual dining experience and will be “fully integrated” into the museum’s food services operations, offering “health-conscious, all natural, organic, and locally-sourced options,” according to a news release. This marks the first time the Plum Market team has partnered with a cultural destination, the release said. Plum Market Kitchen will also offer outdoor seating during warmer seasons and a separate entrance from the museum to provide the community with a casual dining destination.
Plum Market operates 16 fast casual restaurants and six full-service grocery stores in Chicago and metro Detroit. Later this year, it plans to open a cafe and market in the Henry Ford Detroit Pistons Performance Center in the New Center area, as well as a location in the Ally Detroit Center skyscraper downtown.
Birmingham-based Saroki Architects is handling design. The company did not provide the name of the general contractor, but Detroit-based Jonna Construction is the contractor on the incoming downtown store.
