In recent years, Tom Frazier suffered various afflictions — from tinnitus in one ear to heart palpitations and brain fog. He shared details about his symptoms with his sister, Alex Hartinger, a certified holistic health coach. She used a non-invasive alternative healing modality with Frazier called Morphogenic Field Technique, or MFT, and one-by-one his conditions disappeared.
Already a believer in natural health, having become a certified health coach from the online Institute for Integrated Nutrition in 2014 with his sister, Frazier was so convinced of MFT’s healing capabilities that he decided to leave his job as an investment banker in Madison in 2018 and pursue helping people live healthier lives through natural processes.
In December, Frazier opened Symmetry Natural Health in Prairie Lakes, with Hartinger as his co-founder (Hartinger also operates an MFT clinic in Merrill).
Symmetry’s 1,560-square-foot space radiates warmth and serenity with its color scheme and contemporary design.
Three large and inviting practitioner rooms are staffed by Shaye Dorn, a certified MFT practitioner, and two other rooms house infrared saunas that sometimes are recommended to clients to help soothe and detoxify their bodies.
When combined with amethyst stones for BioMat therapy, infrared heat also can facilitate soft tissue repair, boost the immune system and stimulate the nervous system.
“The toughest part of this business is explaining it,” Frazier, 32, said. “We are clinical nutritionists. We use whole food supplements, and herbal and homeopathic remedies to target specific health problems. We don’t replace a doctor; we complement a doctor.”
In other words, as a recent post on Symmetry’s Facebook page states, Frazier and his team “believe that being alive is not the same as living. We believe in returning to the ways that Mother Nature provided. And we believe in helping others navigate their journey to which version of health they choose. We do that by listening actively, by thinking outside the box and by using tools that come from nature. That’s what the body truly wants.”
According to a brochure available at Symmetry, MFT “utilizes the morphogenic field, an extension of the nervous system, to communicate with the human body and gain health information about the condition of our bodies’ cells.” Other cultures and disciplines recognize the morphogenic field but often refer to it as “auras,” “chakras,” “life forces” or “chi.”
At its core, MFT leverages muscle-response testing to read an individual’s energy field and pinpoint his or her body’s specific needs by gaining health information about the energetic state of that person’s cells.
Symmetry’s client base includes individuals who suffer from sleep issues, skin issues, anxiety, thyroid problems, autism and other conditions.
“We’re the last hope for a lot of people,” Frazier said. “We should be the place where people start.”
When explaining Symmetry’s mission, he often cites statistics — including one from the World Health Organization that notes while the United States spends a higher portion of its gross domestic product on its health system than any other country in the world, the U.S. health system only ranks 37th on the global scale.
“That is the definition of failure,” Frazier said.
Not surprisingly, Frazier’s approach has its skeptics — a fact he acknowledges.
“Some people are not ready for us, and they may never be,” he said. “Skepticism is a healthy trait, but it’s different from being close minded. You’ve got to have an open mind about what we do. I think I’m pretty pragmatic, and I just do whatever works. We want everybody to be operating at 100 percent all the time.”
An initial one-hour consultation at Symmetry Natural Health costs $99, while shorter subsequent visits cost between $41 and $55 each, depending on which package a client purchases. Those fees do not include any supplements that might be recommended (fees for child clients are less expensive).
So far, the return rate after the initial consultation is about 75 percent, according to Frazier, who added that any new client who mentions this article will receive a free consultation.
Occasionally, Symmetry will host group classes for up to 12 new clients. The next one is scheduled for May 21, and the cost is $20 per person. Frazier suggested that interested participants call ahead to confirm space availability. Other special events are scheduled each month; one recent event taught participants how to make and use bone broth, an ancient staple of holistic living.
Frazier has lived in Sun Prairie for seven years. His wife, Toni, manages Symmetry Natural Health, and the couple have two young children. The city is an ideal location for this type of venture, he said, because many residents are focused on their health — either by addressing existing issues or taking preventive measures.
“People have been very receptive,” Frazier said. “I have not done anything in my life that has given me more satisfaction and reward. I went from a place of making people money to a place of making people healthy.”
