MADURAI
A yoga and naturopathy centre was inaugurated at Tirumangalam Government Hospital on Sunday by Revenue Minister R.B. Udhayakumar in the presence of Collector S. Natarajan.
R. Boominathan, Chief Medical Officer of the hospital, said a dedicated doctor qualified in alternative medicine had been appointed to provide yoga, physiotherapy and dietary consultation to patients already undergoing treatment at the hospital.
“The centre will also provide outpatient services to those who prefer alternative forms of medicine. Patients visiting the hospital for allopathy treatment can also be referred to this centre by doctors,” he added.
Mr. Natarajan said alternative forms of medicine had gained importance with significant rise in lifestyle-related diseases. “A majority of the diseases can be prevented if we consume the right food and exercise or practise yoga,” he added.
Mr. Udhayakumar said Madurai was becoming a hub of healthcare, particularly with the upcoming All India Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital at Thoppur.
